As a Nigerian, what was your worst experience at your workplace?

I was so happy when I got my first salaried job, not because it was the best job with the most attractive pay, but because I finally had something to do, I didn't have to stay at home watching seasonal movies... Before then I had watched the complete series of 24, strike back, prison break, criminal minds, and many other action-packed movies.

I thanked my boss severally for employing me on a job I have not much knowledge about... I'm an electrical engineering major but the job was for a mechanical engineer, I promised him I would learn fast on the job and he agreed.

On the first day at work, they called me to come for prayers... Hmmm, I was shocked, in a workshop, what if a customer comes in now, what if we all have different religious beliefs? I quietly asked myself... It was an auto repair company.

On the second day another prayer session, this was serious because they brought a pastor who spoke in tongues for several minutes and always expected me to say amen...dude how can I say amen when I have no clue what you're saying, for all I know you could be saying anything, and I'm sure some profane words were included. Then he entered into a sermon, violently preaching and dancing, then eventually ended the prayer session after much more ground-breaking, bone-shattering movements.

Then I felt I've seen it all, it can't get any worse, just accept it, it's part of your life now to pray at work every day. Then I was mistaken once again as I was about everything... I saw four pastors the next day, almost at the close of work, 3 men and a lady.

I will never forget this day. I have never seen such a sad, frightening experience... For these people can pray.

They were just repeating Jesus 7 times and hallelujah 3 times while furiously shaking their heads, stamping their foot on the floor, and walking about the whole available space in the workshop... I was just looking at them as they repeated the same words for a little over an hour. Swearing, wishing people Death ... People who plan evil towards the company, employees who plan evil for their Boss. It was worse than a quarrel.

Then the lady saw a vision right there and then that the company's front gate is spiritually locked with a big padlock dissuading customers from coming in. What an interesting real-life movie, never say never. I immediately looked outside the gate if will see the huge padlock she was talking about... For there was nothing down there nor was the gate closed. After which they brought water cans after much swearing sprinkle them on the whole company yard.

I was amazed, sick, irritated, tired, mad, and more than ready to quit already.

My grandfather who was a well-known pagan did a better job, he was more decent in service to his sticks.

I'm not sure if any right-thinking customer would come in to repair his car after seeing such a spiritual display.

They were busy scaring away future customers.

The next day the director's wife was around the workshop and she was saying something about me gathering other workers to pray again, so I asked her... Is this company at war with anyone? She replied me saying you never can tell, we have to protect ourselves. What?


We love to pray for all our problems to be solved by God without much effort on our part.

We were having several customers a day, and I was working pretty hard to bring in customers as I introduced the business to the net by creating a website and Facebook page, Etcetera. Creating awareness and inviting friends for patronage because the place was standard with all the needed machines. Instead of focusing on bringing in customers and offering good service they were busy praying and fasting for enemies that didn't even exist for all I know.

This is the challenge many faces in life... Fighting things or people that neither have your time nor the power to hurt you.

Indoctrination is the worst of all sins.

If you don't leave your house you won't see things, I did and saw things I never thought could be done by people. It makes me laugh even now when I think about the experience.
