"They called it a 'death march' because of the way they died. If you stopped on the road, you were killed. If you had a malaria attack, they killed you. If you had to stop to defecate, they killed you. If you just couldn't take another step, they killed you."

After nearly 80,000 American and Filipino soldiers surrendered to the Japanese following the excruciating three-month Battle of Bataan, there were even greater horrors in store for them.

The prisoners were forced to march more than 60 miles through the tropical heat of the Philippines with almost no water and just one bowl of rice for the entire week. And those who survived the marching were treated to worse brutality by their captors.

The luckier victims were shot to death, while others were disemboweled, emasculated, decapitated, or even crucified. In the end, as many as 18,000 prisoners were dead within the span of just ten days. Learn the full story of the Bataan Death March

Captain John Herbert Hedley was a British World war I flying ace with eleven air combat victories.

In 1918, during a World War I dogfight, British flying ace Reginald Makepeace went into a steep dive to dodge German gunfire.

Captain John Herbert Hedley who was in the back seat of the cockpit, was thrown off the plane. As the plane leveled off several hundred feet below, Hedley landed on the tail of the plane and hung on till the plane landed safely. This earned him the nickname "The Luckiest Man Alive."

During the First Liberian War in 1992, General Joshua Milton Blahyi would lead his troops wearing only his shoes.

He says the devil telephoned him at age eleven and told him that running into battle naked would make him impervious to bullets. Sometimes he and his soldiers would also don colorful wigs and dainty purses.

He’s still alive. The devil also said it would be a good idea to practice human sacrifice and cannibalism to increase his power. Blahyi admits to sacrificing a small child or teenager before battles, including sometimes cutting out the heart and eating it.

Today he is the president of the End Time Train Evangelistic Ministries, and he has repented his sins, blamed the devil for his actions, and expressed a willingness to be tried for war crimes.
